FRAUD ALERT!

Recently the Altoona VA Hospital Federal Credit Union
Has Been Notified of The following scams:

Members are reporting receiving “interest checks” from Bank of America for approximately $5 or more, when they did not know they even had an account.  According to information received, the routing number is set in such a way to return to the predator your account information to set in motion a series of thefts from your account.  If you receive such a check, contact Bank of America for verification of the existence of such account. There is no such thing as “free money”.

We are starting to receiving information on accounts compromised by the Heartland Payments Systems, Inc. data breach.  We were not breached, they were.  We do not know where you shopped to have your information stored in their database.  Heartland Payment Systems is a processor for MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover Card.  Click the following links for more information:

We have been informed by members they are receiving various text messages, phone calls, and/or emails either bearing the CUNA logo, NCUA logo, etc. stating their “credit union” information has been compromised and they need to call a number and answer questions about their account.  AT NO TIME WILL THE ALTOONA VAHFCU EVER ASK FOR ACCOUNT INFORMATION OR PASSWORDS IN SUCH A FASHION!  If you receive such a request, please contact us at 814.946.0726.  Don’t fall for this, it only creates greater inconvenience in the long run for you.
